Inmate to state: Fix my face from failed suicide attempt

Callaway shot off his lower face in a botched suicide attempt four years ago at a coastal bar. Now the 52-year-old wants the state Corrections Department to pay an estimated $45,000 to finish reconstructive work disrupted when he landed behind bars. As is, Callaway has no teeth and a mouth so small a spoon won't fit. Dierks agrees that inmate Monte Callaway requires reconstructive surgery, not just cosmetic surgery.
