Man, 70, charged by deputies with stabbing

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A 70-year-old Douglas County man is behind bars for allegedly stabbing another man several times during an altercation.

Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in the 19000 block of Tiller Trail Highway just before 10:00 p.m. Monday, to a reported assault.

Deputies say they found Gary Scott Gibbons, 54, outside his residence suffering from multiple stab wounds to his chest. Gibbons was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition.

Authorities say that during the investigation, they found that Gibbons, William Steven Stanley, 70, and two other adults were at Gibbons' residence. Gibbons and Stanley had been drinking and got into an altercation on the front porch, according to officials.

That's when authorities say Stanley pulled a knife and stabbed Gibbons several times in the chest.

Stanley was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Douglas County Jail on Second Degree Assault, Recklessly Endangering, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Harassment charges.
