Deputies: Suspect in goat sacrifice plot hit father in head with ax
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg man is in jail after deputies say he attacked his 73-year-old father with an ax, hitting him several times in the head.
The suspect, Hunter Goldberg, was also arrested last year in a case involving an alleged goat sacrifice plot.
Officials with the Douglas County Sheriff's office say they were called to a house in the 600 block of Rio Nes Lane, which is off of Sunshine Road east of Roseburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The call came after a woman reporting that her son had attacked her husband with an ax, and they were on the way to the hospital.
Authorities say that they spoke with the victim at Mercy Medical Center and learned that the alleged attacker was Hunter Chambers Goldberg, 24, who lived at the residence.
Officials say Josiah Paul Goldberg was sitting in his chair when his son came into the room and attacked him with the ax, striking him several times in the head.
Josiah was able to fight Hunter off and take the ax.
After a standoff with police at the residence, Hunter was taken into custody.
Josiah was treated for what authorities say were severe facial lacerations.
He's currently lodged in the Douglas County Jail on first degree assault and attempted murder charges.
This isn't Hunter's first brush with the law, in late 2011, he was arrested for trying to steal a goat that he had allegedly wanted to sacrifice for the new year.
A 24 year-old axe-wielding man lost to a 73 year-old? Seriously?! When I'm 73, I want to be able to say I beat the snot out of some wimpy 24 year old kid. Wow,.....Can you imagine the snickers in prison?

The parents need to support getting him the max sentence. When he gets released, They need ti insist he live some where other than their house. Do not let him come to their house for any reason. Â

Wow! I remember hunter being one of few kids at Jo Lane middle school, that had strange characteristics, but this is a little stretched past the term "issues."

It is very sad to me that there is no help for the mentally ill especially in the roseburg area. Worst thing they could have ever done was taking out behavioral health. Mental illness hits close to home for me as some of my family suffers in a major way. Do I thinl this guy should be set free because he might be mentally unstable? No way. More reason to lock him up. But mental health treatment should be mandatory while he serves his time.

I went to middle school and high school with this kid and he definitely suffers from severe mental illness. To you people calling for the death penalty, I look forward to hearing your arguments about how we should execute more of the mentally unsound in our society. Wasnt their just a discussion about how crimes against animals lead to worse crimes. (referring to the crazy guy who put a dog in the oven)... I know it was a goat but if this guy was caught intending to sacrifice any animal maybe that should have been a red flag? Well look... it was. This makes me sick. Wth is wrong with people?!! Wow, not sure what to make of this, but hanging does sound good. This person is either seriously mental and needs help or is just plain bad and needs hanged.. Either way keep him away from civilized society!
