ROSEBURNG, Ore. - A man was in the ICU Monday after officials say he nearly drowned in the South Umpqua River Sunday afternoon.

Roseburg Police said someone floating the river saw a man fall down an embankment and into the river near Templin Beach

The passerby jumped in the river, helped the man to shore and started CPR until medical staff arrived.

The man who fell, later identified as Willis Brothers, 68, was taken to the Mercy Medical where he is listed in critical condition.

Roseburg Police notified Brothers' nearest family members, who live in North Dakota.

Police investigators said they believe the fall was accidental and alcohol may have been a factor.
