Man dies in Sunday evening crash in Roseburg

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A 69-year-old man was killed in a car crash Sunday evening west of Roseburg.

At about 6:40 p.m., the Douglas County Sheriff's office responded to a single vehicle accident in the 8000 block of Melqua Road.

Responders found the driver and only occupant of the vehicle deceased at the scene.

Officials say the Michael Wayne Thomsen, 69, of Roseburg, had been traveling northwest on Melqua Road in a 2008 Jeep, when the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and drove into the ditch.

The vehicle struck a tree which ejected the man.

Thomsen was not wearing a seat belt and it is not known if alcohol was a factor, according to the Sheriff's office.
