Man struck by pickup in Roseburg still in critical condition

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A man was struck by a pickup as he was walking across NE Stephens Friday afternoo, and authorities say he is still in critical condition.

Roseburg police and EMS crews were called to NE Stephens near the 76 gas station and Mt. Nebo trailer park for a report that a man had been struck by a pickup.

The pedestrian, identified by police as Charles P. Earwood, 49, of Roseburg, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital where he was treated and then later transported to Sacred Heart at RiverBend Hospital in Springfield.

Police at the scene said Earwood was crossing Stephens and one lane of traffic stopped for him.

Officers say the driver of a small pickup, Zachary Terrell, 47, of Umpqua, did not see the Earwood, and struck him.

Earwood is still in critical condition, police said Monday.
