NOAA: Special Weather Statement

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- The National Weather service has issued a special weather statement for our area.

Not only are they expecting quite a bit of rain the next couple days, they are calling for gusty winds across the region.

Drivers should expect wet roadways and high winds, especially in higher elevations.

...MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY...

A STRONG JET STREAM PUSHING A POTENT STREAM OF SUBTROPICAL
MOISTURE ACROSS THE PACIFIC OCEAN WILL IMPACT THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST WITH HEAVY RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS LATER TODAY INTO TUESDAY.

A STRONG WARM FRONT WILL REACH THE COAST THIS AFTERNOON AND THEN WILL
SPREAD EASTWARD INTO THE CASCADES AND SOUTHWARD INTO THE SISKIYOUS
AND NORTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY. WINDS WILL
BE GUSTY ALONG AND NEAR THE COAST AND IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN,
PARTICULARLY IN THE CASCADES AND SISKIYOUS WHERE WIND GUSTS OF 40
TO 55 MPH ARE POSSIBLE. THE STRONGEST WINDS ON THE COAST WILL
OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...WHILE THE STRONGEST WINDS IN THE
MOUNTAINS ARE LIKELY TO BE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE LIKELY TO BE 1 TO 2 INCHES ALONG THE COAST AND
IN THE UMPQUA BASIN WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES
POSSIBLE IN THE COAST RANGE. THE CASCADES AND SISKIYOUS SHOULD
RECEIVE A HALF INCH TO AN INCH AND A HALF OF RAIN...AND A QUARTER
TO THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH OF RAIN IS EXPECTED ACROSS OTHER
AREAS OF THE INTERIOR WEST SIDE AND IN WESTERN SISKIYOU COUNTY
FROM THE MARBLE MOUNTAINS WESTWARD.

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT WET ROADWAYS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME
PONDING ON AREA ROADWAYS DURING THIS TIME PERIOD...ESPECIALLY IN
AREAS WHERE LEAF DEBRIS ACCUMULATES. ADDITIONALLY...VISIBILITIES
WILL BE REDUCED. LOW DRY SEASON FLOWS IN AREA
STREAMS...CREEKS...AND RIVERS ARE EXPECTED TO DOUBLE OR TRIPLE IN
VOLUME DURING THIS PERIOD...LIKELY INUNDATING SOME BANKS THAT HAVE
BEEN DRY SINCE AT LEAST AUGUST. STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES.
