New arrival to Winston's Wildlife Safari

WINSTON, Ore. -- An exhibit at the Wildlife Safari is finally complete.

For years, there were two hippos at the park, but in 2009, one of them passed away and park officials have been working to bring another hippo to the park ever since.

On Monday, all of their hard work paid off.

Padrone the Hippo is the brand new addition.

Officials say the 11-year-old is still adjusting to his new surroundings. "He came from a completely different environment, said Dan Van Slyke, Executive Director of the park. "He'd never been around other animals, so his first day one of our giraffes walks up, and that was quite an encounter. Backed up, didn't know what to think about that."

Padrone is still a little shy, but he's already out in the hippo exhibit.
