CAMAS VALLEY, Ore. -- Two people were seriously injured and a North Bend teen was cited for several offenses after a Wednesday morning crash on Hwy 42.
Oregon State Police and rescue crews were dispatched to a reported crash Wednesday morning at around 11:40 a.m. on Highway 42 near Singletree Road.
Authorities say a 1995 Ford Taurus station wagon being driven by Elise M. Grundy, 19, of North Bend, was westbound when it lost control, traveled into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 2005 Volvo station wagon driven by Charles Bates, 63, also of North Bend.
A witness told troopers that just before the crash happened, they saw the station wagon making dangerous passes in a no passing zone at a high rate of speed.
Bates had only minor injuries, but his wife Ingrid, 60, and Grundy were transported by Camas Valley Fire & Rescue ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with serious injuries.
Troopers say everyone involved were wearing seat belts and both vehicles' airbags deployed.
Grundy was cited by troopers with reckless driving, reckless endangering, third degree assault and driving uninsured.
OSP Patrol and Fish & Wildlife Division troopers responded to the crash and were assisted at the scene by Winston Fire Department, Camas Valley Fire & Rescue and ODOT.
That is true normal on logging call's to meet up with the Ambulance Tenmile has done the same thing ...Most local Rural Fire Departments are not insured or equipped or have a proper personal to transport ...I think the report from OSP was clearly a mix up on their part ....
Weren't they both driving station wagons? One a Taurus wagon and the second a Volvo wagon. Sad regardless ...
If grundy was driving a Ford Taurus and Bates was driving the station wagon, i believe this story should be corrected or atleast looked into because it makes OSP look like they don't know how to do their job. If a witness testified to a station wagon "..making dangerous passes in a no passing zone". It sounds to me like the DA is going to get an ear full from this little gal. Please look into the story and confirm that this is in truth valid that a witness testified against the station wagon making the dangerous passes, please also confirm that it was Bates driving the station wagon
@Kyle Kearney first off read before you speak, the kid in the ford was careless and shouldnt be on the road, we drive this road alot, and see this kind of driving daily, you must be friends with them?and did the state police write this pagel???
In extreme situations Camas Valley will transport
Betty, thanks for the comment. Here is the text from the Oregon State Police press release, copied and pasted: "CHARLES BATES had a minor injury not requiring admittance to a hospital. His wife/passenger INGRID BATES, age 60, and GRUNDY were transported by Camas Valley Fire & Rescue ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with serious injuries. All vehicle occupants were using safety restraints and both vehicles' airbags deployed." We will be sure to pass your concerns along to OSP.
Should show that the scene was first responded by truck drivers!Â
Kpic need's to get the story right Camas Valley dose not transport nor have they ever but leave it to local new's to screw it up ..........
... and uninsured.
I live just off highway 42 and it is dangerous enough without people driving like idiots.
Hope she learns from a good slap on the check book and record. She could have killed that older couple.
Wow!
I hope she learned her lesson and will be more careful!
