OSP: Motorcycle rider eludes police at 180 mph

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A man riding a motorcycle hit speeds of around 183 miles per hour before crashing the bike on Hubbard Creek Road, Oregon State Police said.
Authorities say it all started at about 11:45 a.m. on Sunday when a trooper clocked a motorcycle going 95 miles per hour northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 81.
Officials say the trooper started to chase the rider but backed off when the motorcycle hit speeds of over 100 miles per hour, allegedly weaving in and out of traffic.
Police say they lost sight of the man, later identified as Jeffrey B. Engebretson, 23, of Grants Pass, around the Canyonville area.
Two more troopers spotted him and tried to stop him near the Winston interchange, but they say Engebretson again sped away.
Troopers say he took exit 125 and headed east on Garden Valley.
Officials say they again located him one more time, before he crashed his motorcycle on the gravel portion of Hubbard Creek Road, less than a mile after the pavement ended.
Authorities say he fled into the woods but was located and arrested without incident.
Troopers say he told them he was going up to 183 miles per hour on Interstate 5, and 142 miles per hour on Garden Valley Blvd.
Engebretson was lodged in the Douglas County Jail, charged by OSP with felony eluding police, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
Wow!
It is what it is.. Bob loveday :0)
Roseanne Keesee Forrester: How dare you - he is someones son and someones brother and is a human being who has had it rough and blah blah typical Kleenex grabbing crap that people say on this liberal soapbox page
i often wonder is it worth risking innocent peoples lives to keep chasing this guy? obviously they had the guys plate wasn't like they couldn't catch him later. imagine if it was your wife or child that got killed because the police figured they had to catch him and he ended up smashing into your loved ones. would it be worth it to you? not worth putting that many peoples lifes at risk to catch him right then and there when all they had to do was go wait for him at his house. seems senseless to me...
@biff wellington I get what you are saying, but the article clearly states that the officers backed off. Not just once, but twice. Not sure how him crashing into a loved one would be the officers fault...I would like to think the suspect would have been the whole cause if that were to happen. From what I have learned, you are supposed to stop when police pull you over...
He thought they said rain a he took cover!!"
Didn't a kid die a few years back because of speeding on his street bike... on garden valley.
Stepped out of line when handing brains i see...lol

On a motorcycle, it's not thta hard. But like i said. You can't outrun the radio and if it's bad enough a chopper.
What an idiot.
