State police nab 26 lbs of pot during traffic stop

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Two Minnesota men were arrested Tuesday morning after Oregon State Police troopers say they found 26 pounds of marijuana in their car.

Just before 9:45 am on Tuesday, troopers stopped a 2008 Pontiac G6 on I-5 near Cottage Grove that was headed northbound.

The two men inside were identified as Gregory J. Swenson, 27, and William V. Shepherd, 27, both of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Authorities say an investigation led to the discovery of about 26 pounds of pot hidden in a duffle bag in the trunk.

Both men were arrested and lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance - Marijuana.

According to the Lane County Sheriff's Office, both men were released from custody on March 6, pending future court appearances.
