Officials: Don't forget to sign your ballot

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- When you're casting your vote for the May primary election, don't forget to sign your ballot before you send it.

Election day is just around the corner, and 11% of voters in the county have returned their ballots.

Officials say that's about average for this time in the election process.

There is one problem they are seeing though. The number of ballots returned without signatures has been higher than usual.

County clerk Patty Hitt wants to remind people that for your vote to count, the ballot return envelope must be signed. "The spot for people to sign is in the normal place on the back of the return envelope, but for whatever reason, we've come across more envelopes without the signature on the back," Hitt said. "So, we're just reminding people that they need to sign the back of the envelope."

Hitt says if you have any questions, you can always check your voter's pamphlet or call the elections office.

Your ballot must be in their office by 8:00 p.m. on May 15.
