ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The bathrooms at the south side of the Douglas County Fairgrounds were demolished on Wednesday.

Crews showed up early and started to tear down the structure at about 8:00 a.m.

The building has been in place for decades.

Officials say they've been trying to replace it for years. "Everybody's glad to see this one come down and the new one come up, it's just well needed," said fairgrounds manager Harold Phillips. "Like I say, we have so many visitors that come in and that's the first impression that they see, and we want it to be a good one."

Harold says that the construction is costing less than they originally anticipated, and says he expects to spend less than $200,000 on the new bathrooms.

The construction should be finished by October.
