One dead, one hurt in crash near Oregon/California border

GRANTS PASS, Ore. - One person is dead after a car crashed into a tree in southern Oregon, just north of the California border.

The crash happened on Highway 199 near the Oregon/California border.

According to Sergeant First Class Jeff Proulx, on February 6, 2013, at approximately 1:54 p.m., a 2005 Dodge pickup driven by Floyd Dale Long, 75, from Crescent City, California, was southbound Highway 199 near milepost 37 when the truck failed to negotiate a curve. The pickup crossed the northbound lane and crashed head-on into a tree.

Long, who was using safety restraints, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 65-year-old Sandra Crockett from Crescent City, was taken by Mercy Flights air ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford for treatment of serious injuries.
