Operation Homefront to give toys for veterans children

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The elves at the VFW Post 2468 have been hard at work. The main room is filled with toys for Operation Homefront.

This Friday, the post will open their doors to veterans and let them take home gifts for their children.

The presents have been donated through shoppers at the Roseburg and Winston Dollar Tree stores.

Organizers say they've received thousands of dollars worth of donations this year, and they're touched at how much the community was willing to give.

Mike Eakin, Post Commander, says he's especially grateful that people are still stepping up when everyone seems to be talking about how bad the economy is. "It's heartwarming to know that people, even though financial times, economic times are kind of bad, they're still willing to help," he said.

Eakin welcomes any and all veterans to stop by the post this Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
