ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 5 by the Douglas County Fairgrounds in the southbound lanes, causing a traffic mess Wednesday afternoon.
The accident was reported just before 4:30 pm, and traffic quickly backed up on I-5 at exit 123.
State police say that a 2013 Ford F150 pickup driven by Jared L. Fuhriman, 39, from Medford, was southbound when according to witnesses, a male pedestrian ran from the right freeway shoulder into the traffic lanes and collided into the pickup's right passenger side door.
The man, identified as Everest James Mc Donald, 34, of days Creek, was knocked to the ground and ran over by a second southbound vehicle, a 2003 Mazda passenger car driven by Aaron E. Estrada, 23, of Roseburg.
Mc Donald was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Neither involved driver was injured.
