Police: Man says he's a cop, tries to steal woman's car

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Police in Roseburg say they arrested a transient who said he was one of them and tried to pull a woman from her vehicle Monday afternoon.

Officers say that just before 3:00 pm, a man identified as Dana Raymond Potter, 55, an area transient, was stopping vehicles in the 2100 block of NE Stephens by walking out in front of them.

One of those vehicles was being driven by a woman with her two small children in the backseat.

Police say that when she stopped, Potter tried to yank her out of the vehicle by her arm, saying he was a police officer.

Officers arrived and arrested Potter without incident.

Police have charged the man with criminal impersonation, third degree robbery and attempted unauthorized use of a vehicle, among other charges.

Officers lodged Potter in the Douglas County Jail.
