Police: Man with machete scares apartment residents

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg man wielding a machete at an apartment complex was arrested Thursday night, Roseburg police said.

Officers were called to a complex in the 2100 block of NE Vine Street just after 11:00 pm, for a report of a man who was holding a machete and knocking on a door, talking about possibly assaulting someone, police said.

Officers from the Roseburg Police Department arrived and found Christopher Lawrence Vermillion, 32, in the parking lot.

Officer say they held Vermillion at gunpoint, and he was taken into custody by police.

Officials say the three people inside the apartment told police that they were alarmed, and thought the man was going to assault someone with the machete.

Vermillion was lodged in the Douglas County Jail and charged by police with disorderly conduct.
