Police: Standoff came after shootout with detectives
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The standoff that closed a Roseburg street for hours was the result of a shootout between police and a male suspect, according to police.
Authorities say that just after 3:00 p.m. Monday, detectives went to the Casa Loma Motel while conducting follow up on an investigation.
They confronted an adult male at one of the rooms and say the male almost immediately started firing at the Detectives with a handgun.
Police say there was a brief exchange of gunfire between detectives and the man, before the he fled into the room.
Due to the proximity of the shooting to Stephens, the road was blocked from Winchester north to Garden Valley. Several businesses in the area were also placed on a lock down during the initial stages of the incident.
Officers and Detectives from numerous neighboring agencies responded to the scene and a perimeter was established around the room.
After several hours of negotiations with the male, he surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident just before 7:00 p.m.
There were no injuries to any of the involved Officers or anyone from the public. The male suspect was treated on scene for a minor injury to his hand.
The investigation is still underway, and officials say information regarding the identity of the male and the charges against him will be released at a later time.
I may be wrong, but I think most of the rooms are weekly or monthly rented..
You have to pay your protection money, you absolutely have to, no exceptions.
I heard the Police shot first.
what was that movie about the psycho hotel? Wow could you imagine if someone from outta town rented a room there? They would be in for a big surprize.
Great job! Now get rid of the motel... The half way house must go!
and they also got him into custody so he couldn't hurt anyone!
Thank Goodness No One was Hurt!!!

How sad that someone feels this desperate and needed to reach out for help, I hope he can find peace with himself and God. I thankful no one, including the suspect, was hurt. Pray for your fellow men and women people, don't condemn them.
Thank goodness no one was hurt. It's so sad to see all this violence happening recently. And especially during a time of year where we should be celebrating...it's hard to do with so much hate and sadness in the air.
Thank you police officers for keeping us safe! Thank a police officer every day!
