Police catch wanted man after foot chase

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A wanted Sutherlin man is behind bars, after police say he led them on a foot chase after a traffic stop.

In late December, a home in the Sutherlin area was burglarized, and evidence eventually led police to a home in the 300 block of Pine Avenue in early January, police said.

When officers got there, they say they found more than the stolen goods: drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found at the house, authorities said.

Police put a warrant out for Mitchell Wells, 26, but hadn't been able to find him.

That changed early Saturday morning, when officer Erik Johnson pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop.

When Officer Johnson tried to pull the car over, the driver jumped out and started running.

Johnson went after him and was able to stop the suspect after a short chase, police said.

They identified the man as Wells.

Officials arrested him and charged him with unlawful manufacture of meth and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance to a minor, among many other charges.

Wells is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail without bail.
