Police find body in South Umpqua River
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Police say they recovered a body a little after 12:30 pm on Tuesday, after some boaters discovered it near Elk Island.
Police were called to the vicinity of Elk Island near the confluence of Deer Creek and the South Umpqua River, after receiving a report that a body had been discovered in the water at that location by boaters.
Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue and Marine Patrol and a Winston Police Department member of the interagency Dive Team, responded to the scene.
Police have not released any information on the identity of the body at this point.
Officials from the Roseburg Police Department and the Oregon State Medical Examiners Office are investigating the case.
More details will be released as we get them.
Look on the news review site, the Sheriff's office has announced the name.
It's probably going to be a while. We don't live in the instantaneous world of CSI. Identifying a body, etc. will take time. Days, maybe longer.
Up date! !! Please.
Julie, we will provide an update as soon as authorities release more information. For the other comments regarding why posts are deleted: If you would like to speculate or name who you "heard" a victim might be, feel free to do so on your own page. We release information as officials give it to us, and will not allow *speculation* of identities on our page. Thanks for your understanding.
How sad. Like to here a update.
I think it's dumb! Just because we say who we hope its "not"! Geez!
This page also deletes comments if the comment doesn't "fit" with what they want to see here.
