WINSTON, Ore. -- The construction is continuing on the Nichol's Park boating facility.

Officials with the city say that crews have been working on the site for about a month.

The process will take a while, and officials say the project won't be finished until fall of next year.

But, once it's done, officials believe the new boat ramp, bathroom and parking lot will mean good things for Winston. David VanDermark, the Winston City Administrator, says the ramp will bring much needed dollars to the community. "One of the things it does, is open up another opportunity for economic development," he said. "To allow fishermen onto that, we think will enhance folks here who sell things like fishing tackle and things like ice and ice chests, and things you might put in your ice chest."

The boat ramp has been years in the making.

Winston officials have been working on completing it for the last five years, and members of the Umpqua Fishermen's Association have been pushing for the facility for more than two decades.
