SHERIDAN, Ore. – McMinnville police arrested a reserve Yamhill police officer who investigators said assaulted and critically injured his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son.
Michael Shane Abo, 34, was arrested Saturday morning. He faces charges of assault (first degree) and criminal mistreatment (first degree).
Police said Yamhill County sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical call about an injured 4-year-old boy at Abo’s home on Dec. 31.
The boy was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to OHSU in Portland where he is in critical condition, police said. Investigators believe his injuries resulted from physical abuse by Abo.
Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree requested that McMinnville police investigate the incident because Abo is a reserve police officer and a former Yamhill County sheriff’s deputy.
Police took Abo to the Yamhill County Jail. Bail was set at $1 million.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Detective Hugo Cerda of the McMinnville Police Department at 503-434-7307.
