Residents want less wait time on trains

WILBUR, Ore. -- Some people in Douglas County say they're outraged over delays at train crossings near Wilbur.
Local residents told KPIC News that limited access is a problem during medical emergencies.
While officials say they are providing solutions, some residents are still not satisfied.
Patrick Kerr is the Director of Government Affairs - West, and he says authorities are working to mitigate the wait times. "We work with our communities, with the 911 service and the emergency vehicle personnel with drills and what not," he said.
That didn't satisfy resident Don Akre. "We didn't solve the problem, so we're setting up some sub-committees to deal with that."
Akre says his wife had to wait for the train for over an hour.
In addition to an alternative road, he says he'd like to see a time limit on blocking roads.
Kerr says the trains do a lot for the community since a lot of railroad business is forest products based.
Officials and residents say they will continue to work on co-existing in the area.
There is nothing that will be done the train has a 15 min blocking max but good luck with that at the Winchestersswitch yard. I know for a fact those men do their job as fast and safely as possible. So you're just gonna have to buck up folks
Glad they moved the rail yard from downtown.. However it sucks bad for Wilbur and North Bank! Makes getting to and from the old bus barn a lot easier..
There is an alternate route that the governtment wont let residents use. There are also two crossings one at north bank and one at shakemill both are blocked. Also my boyfriend worked for the railroad as well so I understand its not the rail road it is 100% our politicians at work
Sweet man that's awesome!!!!!! Txt me one day
Toby Gibbons, I am back it for the Coos bay now brother man!!
Good hob Sonny Richardson former brother of the RxR!!!!
Find an alternative route! You should've taken the train tracks into account when you were thinking about buying/renting your place of residence... But, if the gvnt. were to do something about it, they should build overpasses.
Maybe the city could build an over pass and then traffic could just go over the train! Problem solved... I earned an oyster for that one!
They are just trying to do their job and support their families.... I highly doubt they make it a goal in their day to make YOU late to your job...
I think people need to realize they are doing their JOB!! I very seriously doubt they go out every day and think "how long can I hold all these people up?" No matter what not everybody is going to be happy when it comes to the train.
As someone who also lives off Northbank Rd I really wish they would do something. Far too many times I have been late to work and appointments due to being stuck for upwards of 30-60mins. That shouldn't be allowed.
Perhaps building train bridges (trestles) over the intersections or having the roads built over the train tracks would make too much sense? Â I can't understand why this county hates progress so much.
The worst part is the easement martie is talking about is not allowed to be used because it "may" cause congestion for the mill that sits back off the road across from old Bayliner. But what they don't tell you is that mill is owned by a company in Canada!!! Nothing from that mill supports our local communities so why should it matter if a few cars drive by!?
^^^^^^Hahaha!^^^^^
It's all Obama's fault!! Wait, what are we talking about..? ;)
Had a 30 mind wait in creswell was 20 mins late to work, bad part was the train was stopped the whole time
Everyone could benefit from shorter wait times or alternate routes. I have found the train to be a big inconvenience. Because I am in nursing school, I absolutely must be on time every time and I have found myself leaving up to an hour early just to ensure I get to the college on time, and I like only a couple miles away. Itâs one thing to wait for a train to pass, but I get stuck by a train that is repeatedly moving forward and backward, for what I assume is picking up or dropping off carts in the switch yard. This has happened at both railroad crossings between my house and UCC (North bank and 99). I have also found myself driving at dangerous speeds along Slate Mill Road in order to beat the train that just blocked North Bank road. Yes stupid, but with what very little time I have to sleep and spend time with my family, I donât want to waste hours waiting for a train. My only other option is to go all the way to Glide, then back into Roseburg which isnât really an option at all. I feel the problem can be fixed by simply redirecting the tracks along I-5 until it has passed Wilbur⦠just seems too simple. Please do something to fix this very irritating problem; life is too short to waist waiting for a train, and donât wait until someone dies because they couldnât receive medical care because the ambulance was stuck behind the train!
when I was still working at the post office I had to time when I came back from lunch so I could get back if I went to anywhere on Harvard.
And railroad working around people for lunches and getting off work? Railroad has been around a lot longer and deffinately will never change so people can get lunch
Yep from the time they stop they can't block a crossing for more then 10 minutes but that's from the time they stop, might be a mile and a half long train and there creeping by and time doesn't start til they stop
I live on shake mill rd and I have been late to work several times due to the train blocking both points of exit. The longest time I have been held was 53 minutes. It is irritating, but life must go on.
Jim there is no longer a regulation. I went to the meeting and commissioner Morgan said the regulations were dropped a few yrs ago. My church is the one that started this issue. Our church is on north bank road and the train has been an issue for us for quite some time. I live in the area and my bf has a lot of medical issues. If he had something life threatening happen he couldn't get to the hospital in a timely manner. We have 2 entries to our street yet when the train decides to stop it blocks both of our entrances.
I don't know about the train delay, but I would love to have those railroad ties:)
There is already a regulation...
In Wilbur there is a county road that goes around the tracks through the pole yard that the citizens are not "allowed" to use. It is gated and part of the pole company has now been placed on the easment. It goes from hwy 99 to north bank rd. If the citizens were "allowed" to use this easment most issues would be solved for many.
Our government likes taxes, just tax the hell out of them everytime a train comes through.
Its been getting pretty bad in sutherlin. Multiple times a day an they block the road off of 6th st an central so you cant even go around. No choice but to wait. Up to 25 mins sometimes.
's where people arnt on a 8-4 kind of schedule anymore.
Yes there should be a time length however to say they should not be able to run when people are going to work and when they are going to lunch is not fair. Thats assuming everyone is on the same schedule... the times have changed since the 50
My husband works for the.Railroad, Good luck! Nothing your going to do about it :-)
Yes absolutely. I understand how it may be necessary to tie up a road (or driveway) for a short amount of time, but frankly anything over 10-15 min I would consider excessive.
They should schedule the train so they don't tie up the traffic as people are headed to work, getting off work or at lunch time. That has always been the problem and they haven't fixed it yet. The only way is to totally re-route the train away from the city and that isn't going to happen.
Il live on Echo Drive and coming into town has become a problem with the train..... you never know what time it will be stopped blocking the road and usually you are waiting 20 mins or more. Something has to be done.
