ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Roseburg VA is changing what kind of items they can accept for donations.
In the past, the VA has taken just about everything, new or used.
But officials say that leaves them vulnerable to things like bed bugs, lice and anything that can be transferred through fabric.
So, the VA is now only accepting new items to make sure donated clothing doesn't make veterans sick. Kregg Parenti, the Chief of Voluntary Service at the VA, says they are trying to do whatever they can to ensure veterans do not become ill. "We really have no process in place to ensure that it is clean, that there is no possible contamination issues, and that's what we're striving for at this point," he said.
