Roseburg firefighters stop fire on deck from spreading to house

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A fire did $1,000 damage to a deck and furniture Thursday evening.

The resident was home inside the Chinaberry Avenue rental house when she smelled smoke, the Roseburg Fire Department said.

She then noticed flames coming from the deck behind the house. She called 911 and got everyone out of the house.

The flames were visible when the fire department arrived.

Firefighters broke through a wooden fence and attacked the flames, preventing the fire from spreading from the deck to the house. The house did suffer some smoke damage, the fire department said.

A fire investigator located the point of origin of the fire but was unable to determine the cause.
