Roseburg looks at all-day kindergarten

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Kindergarten students in Roseburg may be spending more time in the classroom.

The Roseburg School Board is talking about switching Roseburg schools from half-day to full-day kindergarten.

Facility issues and financial concerns were raised, but Superintendent Dr. Larry Parsons is optimistic that the board will approve this change. "There are legitimate concerns here, but in the end the board has always been interested in having all day kindergarten," Parsons said. "I think you could tell that tonight. I would expect that, and my guess is that in the end, they will level those concerns but still vote 'Yes' for all day kindergarten."

All day kindergarten will be an action issue at the February 12 board meeting.

If it passes it will go into effect in September of 2015.
