ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg police responded to a shooting on Jacobson Street off of Alameda Tuesday night, and say they have the shooter in custody.

According to police at the scene, the male shooter has been detained on Morris Street nearby.

At about 8:46 pm, reports of a gunshot victim came in to the Douglas County 911 center.

Police at the scene say the suspect shot a female, who was taken to Mercy with life threatening injuries. Another female was apparently hit by shrapnel according to police.

The male suspect took off on foot and was described as a white male, 19 years old, wearing a shorts and a T-shirt and carrying a backpack.

Officers at the scene of the shooting say the man was armed with a handgun.

Authorities say they found the man at a residence on Morris Street a few blocks away at about 9:50 pm.

A police K-9 assisted at the scene, and the Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated.

According to the Douglas County Jail website, Michael Carl Robert Gardner, 19, was arrested by Roseburg police.
