Roseburg taking applications for city council

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- On Monday night, the Roseburg City Council officially accepted the resignation of a councilor.

Steve Tuscherer was recently diagnosed with cancer, and stepped down from his position as councilor in Ward 2 Position 2.

City officials are now accepting applications to fill the vacancy.

But officials caution that it's a position that requires a lot of passion. City Manager Pro Tem Shelia Cox told KPIC News that the position requires, "Somebody that is really dedicated to the community, wants to get involved, and is ready to spend the time that it takes to do that on the council. It really does take quite a bit of time."

Cox says that, if one person applies, they will fill the spot until the election in November.

But, if multiple people apply, they will wait to fill the vacancy until November.
