Sheriff: Man holds knife to girlfriend's throat

MYRTLE POINT, Ore. -- A man was jailed on Thursday, after deputies say he threatened to kill his girlfriend with a knife when they were camping.

Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff's Office were called to Frona Park just before 9:00 pm, for a report that a 35-year-old woman had been the victim of an assault while she was camping from her boyfriend.

Authorities say the victim's boyfriend, Gene McLoughlin, 48, held a homemade knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.

Officials say the victim was able to escape to a nearby residence to call police.

The Sheriff's office says their investigation led to the discovery that McLoughlin had previously punched the woman and drug her across the campground by her hair.

McLoughlin was arrested and charged by deputies with menacing and harassment.

He was booked into the Coos County Jail.
