Roseburg soldier reflects on time in Iraq

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- One local man says that Tuesday's anniversary of the start of the Iraq War serves as a time to reflect on his service, a service he says he's proud to have done.
Sgt. First Class Nick Marshall serves as a recruiting and retention NCO, and says he was glad that he was able to serve when his country called on him. "I'm pretty proud of my service for going overseas to Iraq," Marshall said. "It's nice to be able to accomplish the mission that our commanders have asked us to do."
Marshall served in Iraq from 2009 to 2010, stationed on Tallil Air Force Base in the southern part of the country.
"To be able to look back on it and feel good about what I did, it does make you feel warm on the inside that you're able to help out in a time of need."
The last American combat troops left Iraq in 2011.
More than 1.5 million people, both service members and civilians, took part in the war.
