Stitch by stitch, show impresses with quilts

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Hundreds of people headed down to the fairgrounds this weekend to take in some amazing craft work.

The Umpqua Quilter's Guild's annual fair was back this weekend, with more than 270 quilts on display.

Organizers say the event usually draws in nearly a thousand people. Teri Gregg, a UVQG member said, "It's overwhelming, even for us. We see quilts all the time, but when we see them on display like this, en masse, it's just amazing."

Quilting is truly a labor of love. Stitch by stitch, some crafters can take up to a year before they're finished with their quilting creations.

But some quick quilters can be done a little sooner than that.

This year's featured quilter says she can finish a project in as little as a week. Jane Yurk began the hobby 11 years ago, and says she started it because she wasn't good at other crafts. "I just like the whole concept of quilting. You know, you take something little, or a piece of fabric and you just cut it up and you put it in something totally different."

Yurk adds that the quilt show is a great place to find ideas and inspiration on future masterpieces.
