Students tuning up for state band competition

RIDDLE, Ore. -- Students in Douglas County are tuning up for the upcoming state championships.

Glide, Douglas, Roseburg and Riddle High School bands will represent the county at the Oregon School Activities Association's band championships.

Riddle High is one of the smaller schools in the state, but they're bringing big talent to the competition.

Michael Wilson, the Riddle High School Music Director, says the students have been working very hard to get ready for the competition. "It's a good experience, especially being new here at the school, to get a chance to do this with the kids," he said. "We did our league festival, we actually did a really great job, we improved all year."

The Riddle band will be competing in the 2A/1A school category.

While the band students are no strangers to awards, Wilson says he just wants students to do their best.

They've been rehearsing since January, and now they're off to Corvallis for the championships on May 8.
