Troopers find 2 lbs of heroin hidden in car's trunk

CANYONVILLE, Ore. - Troopers found 2 pounds of heroin in the trunk of a speeding car on Interstate 5 last Saturday and arrested the two men in the car, Oregon State Police said.

The find led detectives to make another arrest in Newberg.

The investigation started Sept. 1 just after 7 a.m. when a trooper stopped a 2004 Chevrolet Impala with Washington plates on I-5 northbound for a speed violation.

A drug dog led troopers to find 2 pounds of heroin hidden in the car's trunk. State police estimate the value of the heroin at $70,000.

Police took both the driver and his passenger - Victor Hugo Barragan Alcazar, 18, and Armando Giovani Valencia, 18, both from Vancouver, Wash. - into custody on charges of Unlawful Possession and Distribution of Heroin.

They were later cited and released to appear at a future date on the charges in Douglas County Circuit Court.

The investigation led state police drug detectives to Newberg, where they arrested Enrique Botello Sanchez, 31, of Vancouver, Wash., on Sunday, Sept. 2, for an outstanding Fail to Appear Warrant (DUII, Resisting Arrest).

Police said charges are pending against Sanchez related to the heroin found in the car.
