Two men arrested after chase south of Roseburg

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Sheriff's deputies arrested two men who ran from them, prompting a multi-agency response to the Happy Valley Road area Monday afternoon.
Officials say that at around 3:00 p.m., a deputy on patrol saw Ricky Lavrar, 30, of Winston, driving by in a white Nissan sedan, and allegedly tried to hide his face from the deputy.
When the deputy turned around, he said that Lavrar and his passenger, later identified as Steven Kateley, 30, of Roseburg, ditched the car in the driveway at 3065 Happy Valley.
Officials say the men ran on foot through the residents yard and a field behind the house.
Sheriff's deputies, Oregon State Police and officers from Winston and Roseburg all responded to the area to help track down the two men.
Deputies say that after running through several pastures, fences and creeks, they caught up to Kateley, who was arrested without incident.
Deputies say Lavrar continued to run, but was caught a short time later.
Officials searched the car, and say they found about two ounces of marijuana and about four grams of meth.
The two men were taken to the Douglas County Jail. Lavrar was booked on charges of eluding on foot, unlawful possession and distribution of meth and second degree trespassing, among other charges.
Kateley was charged by deputies with unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal trespass and a parole violation, among other charges.
Deputies say the car was released to the registered owner's daughter, who they say had loaned the car to Lavrar.
