2 vehicle crash sends 3 to hospital
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A head on crash in the Green District in South Roseburg sent 3 people to the hospital.
Officials on scene say that they're not sure exactly what happened.
A gold truck was heading southbound in the 4400 block of Carnes Road when it collided with the SUV, which was heading northbound.
Two people from the SUV were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A 1-year-old girl was secured in a child seat in the SUV. The girl checked out with paramedics on scene, but her grandmother took her to the hospital in a personal vehicle just to make sure she was OK
Jo Pedrola, Fire Marshal of Fire District #2, says that witnesses of the crash stopped at the scene and assisted the first responders, and Pedrola says they were a big help.
Fire District #2, Winston Fire Department, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office all responded to the crash, and Carnes Road was closed for about an hour.
DCSO is continuing the investigation into why it happened.
Was cell phone use the cause. Â Still lots of people using cell phones illegally while driving.
No kidding... it's really disturbing that people don't understand the fact that talking on the phone, even legally with a hands-free device, distracts from your driving significantly. I wish people would remember that when the vehicle is moving, there is only one responsability, and that is to drive. It is not talking on the phone, not doing make-up, not eating, or ANYTHING else. Drive and do only that. Unless something drastic happens, there is no excuse for an accident. These are two ton machines traveling at decent speeds with just a couple or few feet between them. It's a crazy concept just from that alone but to have people not completely focused on driving, that really scares me and it explains why this area with such a small population has so many fatalities from auto accidents. Sad.
