Why all the rain? Thank Hawaii and 'Pineapple Express'

Why all the sudden rain and rising rivers?

Thank Hawaii.

It's coming from Hawaii via the 'Pineapple Express,' otherwise known as the Atmospheric River.

So what is an atmospheric river? Forecasters say it's a plume of very moist air flowing into the Pacific Northwest originating from the Tropical Pacific near Hawaii.

No, it isn't bringing the island sun and warm beaches with it.

How long will it last?  The National Weather Service says you can expect another bout of heavy rain Thursday night into Friday morning and the next on Saturday.

What does this mean? Rising rivers and streams, standing water on roadways and possible landslides.

Authorities are asking people to slow down on the roads, and be sure you get where you are going safely!
