WINSTON, Ore. -- The results are in, and the three members of the Winston-Dillard Fire Board have been recalled by a landslide.
Dale Stutzman, Lyle Jefferies and Stan Keeler will have to step down immediately after the elections office certifies the results.
Here are the final numbers released:
Stutzman - Yes: 1,172 No: 305
Jefferies - Yes: 1,152 No: 325
Keeler - Yes: 1,178 No: 296
Turnout was just over 40%
The controversy in Winston started when board member Vern Heyer asked to see documentation of the district's finances, including the salary of then Fire Chief Robert Nicholls.
After that issue was resolved, members of the recall committee weren't satisfied with the answers they were being given, and filed paperwork in January to get the recall going.
Douglas County commissioners will have to appoint a member to the board so that business can be conducted, and the fire board will have to elect two new members.
This is a developing story. KPIC News will have reaction from both sides on Friday.
