WINSTON, Ore. -- The recently refurbished Civic Wayside Park in Winston officially opened this weekend.
Dozens of community members attended the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.
The park used to look more like the field next to it, but the city has been working hard for about a year to get it up and running.
Terrie Allen, from the Ford Leadership Cohort says the beautiful park is already starting to pay off. "It's already helped the community," she said. "They meet out here for lunch and we're calling it the Winston gathering place. It's really a nice area for everyone to get together. We hope that bands will play here from the high school."
The new monument standing next to the parking lot shows that Civic Wayside Park is dedicated to veterans.
Most of the materials were donated from local businesses in the community.
