Winston student says man was "Waiting to shoot someone"

WINSTON, Ore. -- A Winston Middle School student told police he saw a man holding a gun near Winston Middle School just after 6:30 am on Tuesday.

Officers say the student told the secretary that he saw a man holding a gun at his side near the intersection of Gregory and Park Streets.

The student described the man as being around 6 feet tall, skinny build and wearing a black stocking hat, black coat and black pants.

The student told authorities that he had not seen the man before, and could not describe his face.

The student told officials he thought the man was waiting in the area to shoot someone.

An officer checked the area but was unable to locate a male fitting the description.

Police say staff at the school kept the kids inside before school started.
