Winston welcomes new 3rd grade mayor

WINSTON, Ore. -- Winston has a new mayor!

Out of hundreds of students, third grader Kaitlynn Wade from Brockway Elementary was chosen to give her input on how to improve the city.

On her winning survey she said she wanted the city to be planted with more trees and flowers, and to make sure they're watered.

She spent the afternoon with members of city council, touring Wildlife Safari and the police and fire departments.

Sharon Harrison, Winston's actual mayor, says she believes people in town could learn from suggestions, even ones that don't come from adults. "We would like to know what the kids really want in the community and the parks," she said. "What they feel they need, what's good, what isn't."

Mayor Kaitlynn will also make an appearance at Winston's city council meeting this coming Monday night.
