WINCHESTER, Ore. -- Senator Ron Wyden made a stop in Douglas County on Monday for a town hall meeting.

About 100 people came out to speak with the senator about current issues at Umpqua community college.

Questions from the audience ranged from filibusters to military spending and support for veterans, but Senator Wyden said one thing he wanted to focus on was job creation, and what he's doing to help rural Oregon communities get back to work.

Wyden said that town hall meetings are an invaluable way for him to find out what Oregonians want.  "You can't do your job right just sitting behind a desk back in Washington D.C. and trying to guess what's on people's minds," he said. "What I want to do is make sure they know I'm listening to them for their ideas."

Senator Jeff Merkley is also coming to Douglas County. He will be holding a town hall meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. That meeting will be at the Myrtle Creek Elementary School.
