Man who shot neighbor sentenced to prison
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Myrtle Creek man will serve at least 70 months in prison after being sentenced Tuesday by a Douglas County judge.
Ashley Meng, 35, was convicted on December 14 of second degree assault and assaulting a public safety officer.
He was found not guilty of attempted murder charges in the shooting of his neighbor, Thomas Correa, after a confrontation near his home east of Myrtle Creek.
Judge William Marshall gave Meng 70 months for the assault charge and 18 more for assaulting a public safety officer.
The 70-months is a mandatory sentence.
He is also required to pay $20,000 in restitution for the medical costs for Correa, and two deputies who were injured when Meng scuffled with them during questioning at the Sheriff's office.
