Health Department: No more free shots for adults with insurance

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Funding for public health clinics has changed who can get free vaccines.
317 funds allowed for free vaccines for adults who had health care, but couldn't afford to pay deductibles or co-pay.
As of March 1, that's changing, but officials hope people will continue to get necessary shots.
Dawnelle Marshall is the public health division director, and she says their mission is still the same. "We want to do what we can to prevent an illness or a disease," she said, "and so, one of the ways of doing that is through immunizations."
Adults are welcome to continue to get shots from the health department, but they must be able to pay the for the procedure during the visit, and can bill their insurance later.
The change does not affect children.
Kids who have no insurance, are underinsured, or on the Oregon Health Plan will still be able to get their shots for free.
My father is really happy with Medicare, Bill. You guys are paying 130 bucks a month for very good insurance. In fact, it's comparable to the insurance he received from RFP. My uncle, who worked for Ore-Ida in Idaho, loves Medicare. It is way better than what he was offered from his job. Of course, that will all change if it's changed to a voucher program. Vote wisely.
I agree Bill! Thats exactly the fear that my parents also have.
I am retired and collect SS and have medicare. I pay premiums on my medicare. They are trying to push cutting what myself and other retired people get. I don't get shots already..didn't even know any were free because have never looked for free stuff. There is a simple explanation for all this. The government( at least the politicians) want the old and sick dead.
We have insurance and the price of going to the doctor and what they charge is still a lot! even with insurane. I cant afford to pay co-pay and the 20% plus price of shots and all of the other things that add up. Having insurance doesnt make it all affordable.
My husband is a hard worker and has never gone without work. His job comes with insurance but it does not cover any shots at all for adults. $25 plus is often hard for people to come up with, especially when you multiply that by two or three people in your household. In my opinion, the middle class people are an endangered species. We make just enough to barely survive but not enough to qualify for ANY type of help. The system as a whole is broken and it is only going to get worse.
I could not agree more Debra ........
I could not agree more Debra ........
This is wrong !! The elderly who are on a fixed income, can barley afford to live as it is. $25.00 to some people is hardly missed, to many of our Seniors, it can be the difference between living and dieing.
Gee, we've been paying for years there and we have always had insurance-good that others will too now.
lots of pharmacies do shots
it make a lot of sense to me . if you pay $400 for insurance a mo, then you shouldn't have a co-pay at all
GOod why should someone who has insurance get something for free anyway. Doesnt make much sense to me.
WELCOME TO OBAMA CARE
Flu shots are like $25 at Walgreens, Rite Aid and K-Mart anyways
That is a bunch of bull. I don't see how taking away shots for adults who can't afford health care deductibles or co-pays will help them. Official hope people will continue to get necessary shots? With what money to pay the deductibles/co-pays? We will see a decline in shots in adults.
thats a bunch of crap.
