Man swept to sea while trying to save dog

POINT REYES, Calif. (AP) - A man has been swept to sea and drowned while trying to save his dog hit by a rogue wave on a Northern California beach.
The Coast Guard says the man and his wife were walking on the beach near Point Reyes on New Year's Day when a wave overtook the dog. Point Reyes is a popular tourist destination about 30 miles northwest of San Francisco.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the couple went into the water to rescue the dog but the man was swept away.
His body was found about three hours later.
The wife and dog made it safely to shore.
Names haven't been released.
In November, three people drowned in roiling surf while trying to save their dog at Big Lagoon state beach near Arcata.

Well, I just lost my toy yorkie and would have given anything to keep him alive, even jump in an ocean. I still cry every day, I miss him, he was my baby...They are like are kids, and often...love us more than other humans do. They don't care if we're rich, poor, ugly, fat, skinny...nothing...NEVER judges, just love us for who we are, how many people can you say about that? I don't agree to DIE but agree that I would have done the same.... Sad story but a hero and a good man in my eyes...
sorry guys but a dogs life isn't worth a human's, he died trying to save the dog and the dog left him out there to drown.
a noble sacrifice.. but j lynch says it all.Â
Â
The water there is very cold and full of sharks. When people try to save a dog, the dog often saves itself with its instincts, whereas the person is killed. Please, be very careful in the dangerous surf. Also, if the air temperature is 70 degrees and the water is fifty degrees, then just the difference alone can send your body into shock. Rip tides pull away from the shore whenever there is heavy surf, If you are ever pulled out to sea, swim parallel to the shore.Â
so sad. i have gone out on ice to save my dog. instinct to save just kicks in.
Again, every year, year after year, this happens faithfully on the Northern Coast of California.. Very sad and very, very dangerous waters there. Take caution when visiting. It is a very Beautiful place to visit, but that Ocean is unpredictable and dangerous! I lived ther and I never went into the surf!
Â
if you have never experienced the unconditional love of a dog, you could never understand the bond between man and dog
A dog would save a owners life without hesitation. More than I can say for most humans.
@Thomas then why didn't he save the man who died?
@Kristan Foreman  @Thomas - Because the dog isn't equipped to do so in this case, regardless of it's desire to do so.
Â
Kind of a stupid question really. Â Why not ask why dolphins don't save more hitchhikers?
Â
Genius.
Â
clap clap :)))
wow what a sad story
Don't even try to convert idiots like Jermy Mason. He's a REAL man!

Jeremy, what an incompassionate idiot you are. They dont call them mans best friend for nothing. they are loyal and show unconditional love, even in the most unflattering conditions. may you never own a dog.
@Jeremy Mason Don't worry Jeremy no one would jump in for you! Dogs are such better creatures than humans!
Jeremy, I would rather save any dog over your stupid ass any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Your the idiot!
@Jeremy Mason You must be a lonely and angry man.
@Robin  @Jeremy Mason - Amazing.  You basically just said what everyone was thinking about you.  I'm guessing you sensed that.
@Jeremy Mason Excuse me Mr. Mason, but you have obviously never owned a dog. They become your family, you love them like they were your child. If your child was swept to sea, you would go after him/her wouldn't you? Same goes with the family dog. A REAL dog or animal lover wouldn't think twice.
 @Jeremy MasonÂ
YOU are the idiot. Â Many people consider their animal companions as members of the family. Â Go learn compassion.
