American Legion: Roseburg needs one win to reach World Series title game
By Jason Hink, Douglas County Sports OnlineSPOKANE, Wash. -- After losing their opening round game on Friday, the Docs came from behind to defeat Chesapeake, Virginia, in an elimination game Saturday at the American Legion World Series. That put them into a loser out game on Sunday. Roseburg's Doc Stewart's took on Moline, Illinois at Avista Stadium in Spokane. In the top of the first, the Docs were trailing 1-0, when Moline's Jimmy Wages hit a bouncer up the middle, but Docs second baseman Austin Stone with a behind-the-back flip to shortstop Johnny Farrington resulted in a close call at first, but Wages was safe. The Illinois state champs would take a 5--1 lead against the Docs. But, the Docs come back to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Vince Ampi nails a pitch, sending it over the left field wall, a three-run shot that puts the Docs up 6-5. Moline would tie it up at seven, but in the bottom of the sixth, Roseburg's Mitch Huff lays down a bunt, Moline pitcher Ryan Archer throws the ball away and Farrington scores. The Docs come from behind once again as Dakota Cavens closes it out in relief of Jared Priestley for a 9-7 victory. The Docs will take on Sierra Vista, Nevada on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
