EUGENE, Ore. -- Despite cooler temperatures and the threat of rain, Duck fans came out in force for the home opener at P.K. Park.

Brian Hood and his wife Lila have been attending games of many different sports for years.  One thing is certain: if it's a Ducks game, they'll be there.

"We built our life around it," explained Hood. "We figured we had enough money when we retired to have one really bad vice."

Lila Hood has always been a Duck fan, but Brian liked Notre Dame, which put their future together in jeopardy.

"If you want to be married to me, you have to be a Duck fan," said Lila. "That's just the way it is."

Reluctant as he may have been, Hood went to a game with his wife, University of Oregon versus University of Southern California.

"No Notre Dame fan likes USC. An hour and a half later I was a Duck fan.  I was such a Duck fan that I quit my job and went back to school just so I could say I'm a real Duck fan," said Hood.

Ever since, Hood and his wife have been side-by-side, loving their Ducks and each other.

"Baseball is America's game, and it always will be," said Brian. "It is a game where the conversation is every bit as important as what's going on on the field."
