SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Marist senior Taylor Walcott won the boys 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash to help the Spartan boys win the Midwestern League track and field championship.

Marist finished with 183 points, while 3-time defending champion Marshfield finished second with 175 points.

Walcott defended his league titles winning the 100 meter dash in 10.74 and 200 meter dash in 22.35.

The Spartans clinched the title in the 300 meter hurdles when Coleman Byrum and Liam Henshaw finished second and third.

"It's nice because Marshfield always has a really good track team," said Walcott. "They have a pretty beast program. Our coaches are happy about that too, so that makes me happy."

Marshfield ran away with the girls title with 227 points. Willamette finished second with 101 points.

Churchill senior Rochelle Pappel won the girls individual title with 28 points. She won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.36 and the 300 meter hurdles in 46.16. Pappel also finished second in the 100 meter dash.

Pappel missed all of her junior season after she had her appendix removed and suffered a quad injury.

"It drove me a lot since I didn't compete last year," said Pappel. "It's my senior year. I just wanted to go out with it all."

Marshfield also won the coed title for the second year in a row with 402 total points.
