Riley returns to practice, answers questions about marijuana

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- After missing two practices this week to attend to his ailing father, head coach Mike Riley returned on Saturday and faced questions about marijuana and comments made by Scott Crichton.

On Thursday, Crichton had some rather honest responses about how prevalent marijuana use is among college athletes.

"Nowadays everybody is smoking weed," said Crichton. "It's the thing to do nowadays I guess. I don't know what else to say."

On Saturday, Riley addressed the issue.

"I don't think it's a problem," said Riley. "I know that when we have an issue, we deal with it. It's probably been, through the years, one of the ways guys eliminate themselves from this program."

Riley said he would like to test athletes all the time but state laws don't allow testing without probable cause.

"What we try to do is, number one, education about habits, about anything, alcohol, drugs, late nights, put them all together. We try to help these guys grow."
