Oregon State 15, Pacific 2
By Associated PressCORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State's Logan Boyd set a career high in hits and runs batted in and Lonnie Lechelt added a grand slam to support pitcher Mike Stutes as the Beavers took game one of a three-game series against Pacific, 15-2 Friday night.
Each game is a must-win if the Beavers hope to make it to post-season.
The grand slam capped off a seven-run first inning for the Beavers.
Stutes is four-and-seven for the season. The teams play again tomorrow. There is a chance that the Beavers, who are 25-24, could be the first defending NCAA champion to miss the playoffs since Georgia in 1991, and the first team to sit out the postseason the year after winning consecutive titles since Stanford in 1989. The Beavers are on a four-game losing streak and have dropped five of six. Before that they were in position to make the postseason without worry.
